What makes us Unique
I love having students conduct research and genetics offers them a perfect chance to begin the process. This is an introductory lesson that is perfect for upper elementary and middle school students. This lesson allows students the opportunity to use math to analyze data while exploring what make a trait inherited. The lesson begins with students making observations of physical features they can observe on 4 friends. Then students explore traits that they have such as their ability to roll their tongue, taste PTC paper, and whether or not their earlobes are attached or free. Students create a trait tree and analyze the results. The lesson ends with students researching what inherited traits their friends have in common with them! From vocabulary strategies to critical thinking, this lesson has it all!
